"Join the corps. Taste the galaxy"
Officially licensed from Shepperton Design Studios and prop-maker Andrew Ainsworth, the Original Stormtrooper, Galactic Pale Ale and Lightspeed Pilsner Lager have been made with beer lovers and die-hard film fans in mind.
Brewed in collaboration with the license holder, The Sourceror Ltd, these beers promise robust flavours, yet sessionable drinking at just 4.2% ABV. It's also made with Australian Galaxy and US Millennium hops - of course.
This spacecraft ale looks awesome! The can design, the pint glass I ordered with the beers, the slogans... All of it.
I am a big Star Wars fan, I love the film's, I especially love the games, they’re great. I was hoping the excitement would continue to a galaxy far far away, but alas, it stopped after the first sip...
As far as beers go this isn't bad at all and it doesn't hang solo on my list as a stand-alone beer. But with a premium price tag attached to it (approx £3 per 330ml can) I was expecting a little better if I'm honest.
I would certainly buy this beer again if the actual drinking experience was better, instead, this will just be a one-off purchase for me. I have to Luke on the bright side though, I ordered the package that included the cool glass so not a total waste of money.
Unfortunately, this beer is looking for love in Alderaan places.
It claims to be a hoppy aromatic session ale with bright citrus flavours. Aromas of grapefruit, pine and herbs are followed by a soft bitterness and earthy undertones. I'll be honest nothing stood out to me, it seems diluted and too fizzy. Almost like the beer they're talking about has been watered down with sparkling water.
I sat down with a pint full of this in front of a fine episode of "Teen mom" probably one of the worst TV shows ever made - not my turn with the remote tonight. The sheer drivel which unfolded Infront of me on the screen was more memorable than the beer I was drinking.
Cool idea, cool design, but unfortunately in true stormtrooper fashion this one fails to hit the mark, for me. Perhaps I'll give them a second chance and try their light-speed pilsner.
If you're thinking about purchasing this, do it for the novelty, not for the beer.
6/10 - it gets an extra point for being Star Wars.
Live long, and prosper... Right?
Chris.
